China's Animal Feed Output Seen Up

China's animal feed production is likely to reach 156 million tonnes in 2010, the China Feed Industry Association said. The output projection, which is 5 percent higher than the output level in 2009, was in line with an earlier estimate given by a senior industry official.

Production has risen 45 percent from 2005 despite a series of quality scandals that have hit the industry in recent years, the association said in a report posted on its web site (www.feedtrade.com.cn). China's animal feed production is likely to grow annually by 10 million tonnes over the next decade, adding to demand for corn and soyameal, the major feed ingredients.

The China National Grain and Oils Information Centre (CNGOIC) expected the industry would need 57 million tonnes of meals, mainly soyameal, next year, a rise of 14 percent from this year. China is already the world's largest soy importer. The feed industry has this year imported the largest volume of corn in more than a decade amid tight domestic supplies.
