The mill, located in the city of Vijayawada and acquired from Mulpuri Foods & Feeds, reflects the company's commitment to bring farmers safe, high-quality aqua feed solutions. It also marks an important step in Cargill's work to develop its aqua feed business in India and across Asia.
The plant is strategically located in the Andhra Pradesh region - considered the capital of farm raised aquaculture in India - and produces fish feed products for tilapia and other warm water species. Cargill currently works with toll millers in the region, selling about 30,000 tons of fish feed a year. The new plant, with a capacity of 90,000 tons per year, enables Cargill to triple its fish feed capacity in India to better serve customers in the region.
"This is a vibrant market and we're excited to better serve farmers across Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Odisha and Bengal," said Chad Gauger, managing director of Cargill aqua nutrition in South Asia. "The new facility positions us to better meet their demand, as the country will soon become the most populous in the world."
Cargill invested more than US$10 million in the opening of the plant, which also bring around 200 new jobs to the region.
"India presents great opportunities for Cargill and plays an important part in our aqua nutrition growth strategy in Asia", said Einar Wathne, president of Cargill Aqua Nutrition. "The plant leverages Cargill's industrial and supply chain capabilities, as well as our innovation expertise to provide customers with the best possible feed solutions, helping them grow healthy seafood and increase their output."
The new feed plant marks the introduction of Cargill's EWOS brand of aqua nutrition fish feed products to India. The EWOS brand offers fish farmers deep expertise in aquaculture nutrition, combined with groundbreaking research into fish health and sustainable innovations.
The plant will open January 24, 2018.

The acquisition will help the company further develop its Free Choice Mineral and premix capabilities to better serve customers across the country's mid-west region. The transaction is expected to close in the next few months, depending on regulatory approvals of the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE).
Cargill is committed to serving the beef industry with quality animal nutrition solutions and increasing production efficiencies. This acquisition will take the best of both companies' capabilities to better serve customers looking for greater access to important minerals and premixes.
"Our customers are at the forefront of everything we do and I'm thrilled to partner with a company that has more than 31 years of experience and a strong reputation for quality products and services in Brazil," said Scott Ainslie, vice president and group director, Cargill Animal Nutrition. "We see this acquisition as an important step in our plan to grow the beef business in Brazil and strengthen our supply chain throughout the country."
Under the agreement, Cargill will purchase 100 percent of Integral's assets, including a production plant located in Goianira, Goiás, Brazil, a portfolio of products ranging from Free Choice Minerals to premixes, around 100 employees and a net revenue of 80 million reais ($25 million US) per year.
"Integral is enthused about joining Cargill to further develop capabilities and grow the feed business in our market," said Paulo Mendonca Del'Acqua, CEO of Integral. "It is important to us that we continue to build upon our commitments to achieve high sustainable products and services quality for our customers."
Upon closing this transaction, Cargill will integrate complementary capabilities, expand access to innovation platforms, align nutrition capabilities and incorporate a broad trading and risk management competency.
"As we expand into this market, we bring Cargill's rich history in innovative animal feed products," said Celso Mello, managing director, Cargill Premix and Nutrition. "Our extensive work combined with Integral will be a catalyst for developing new products and solutions that continue to meet the needs of our customers". This acquisition does not affect the current operation plants of Cargill Animal Nutrition in Brazil.

Early last month ANT signed a long-term lease to operate a factory on 2.8 hectares of land in Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone. Operations at the feed mill are expected to start in the first quarter of 2019 after a 14-month construction period.
Senior manager of Phnom Penh SEZ, Michelle Zhao, said ANT had up til now been exporting its feed products into Cambodia from a feed mill based in Vietnam. The company is now looking to take a greater stake in Cambodia's fast-growing market by producing the feed locally in the country. The company joins two other animal feed producers in Phnom Penh SEZ, namely China's New Hope and Thailand's Betagro.
"Cambodia's domestic market is growing fast as purchasing power increases," said Zhao. "Thus [there are] more and more domestic-oriented manufacturers looking at Cambodian operations now, especially in the Phnom Penh area."
According to Zhao, ANT will source the materials for animal feed both domestically and abroad to produce its three signature brands: Red Star, DaChan and Dr Nupak. The new feed mill will have an annual production capacity of 144,000 tonnes and is expected to employ 150 workers.
ANT is one of five companies to sign lease agreements with Phnom Penh SEZ since the start of the year. The activity has given a boost to the firm that operates the special economic zone, which has struggled to bring in new high-profile investors since listing on the Cambodian stock exchange in May 2016. Phnom Penh SEZ was established in 2006 on 357 hectares and has a total of 88 registered tenants.

The deal was announced in early August and closed on September 22.
Under the agreement, Cargill purchased the assets of Southern States Cooperative's animal feed business, including seven feed mills and its portfolio of products, brands and customer and supplier relationships. The other segments of Southern States Cooperative's business - retail, farm supply, energy, and agronomy - are not part of the transaction.
"The combination of CFN U.S. and Southern States Cooperative's animal feed business will help us grow with customers and best meet their ever-changing needs," said Mark Lueking, U.S. managing director, Cargill Feed and Nutrition. "We are excited about this growth opportunity to further demonstrate our commitment to the U.S. animal feed industry."
The acquisition strengthens Cargill's distribution and go-to-market capabilities in the Southeast, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions of the U.S., and provides a pathway for continued growth across the region. In addition to the acquisition, Cargill has completed a long-term supply agreement with Southern States for Cargill to supply its retail stores with Southern States branded feed.
"We believe that our combined business will provide unique benefits to our members and customers," said Jeff Stroburg, President and CEO of Southern States Cooperative, Inc. "We've brought together two best-in-class feed companies to develop solutions to meet their needs. We look forward to growing the Southern States feed business with Cargill as our partner."

The opening of aquaculture feed line in Ha Nam marks 10th aqua feed line nationwide
This new line strengthens the company's long-term commitment to contribute to the development of the local agricultural economy. It is Cargill's second aquaculture feed line in the North of Vietnam. With a production capacity of 3,000 MT/month, this modern line focuses on high quality extruded feed for Tilapia and other local species to serve the local demand for floating fish feeds.
Thanks to its strategic location in Ha Nam province, the new aquaculture feed line will improve access to customers in the major agricultural areas of Ha Nam, Hanoi, Thai Binh and the broader North Central Vietnam region where farmers are rapidly switching from extensive to intensive farming practices. It will help reduce delivery time to customers and enable fish farmers to grow healthy seafood, increase their output, and lower their production costs per kilogram while reducing their impact on the environment.
"Vietnam is a critical aquaculture market for Cargill, and we are excited to be expanding our aquaculture feed capability to our 6th plant location to continue our growth in Vietnam and in Asia South," said Chad Gauger, managing director, Cargill Aquaculture Nutrition Asia South. "Cargill's global innovation and expertise combined with our strong plant operations in Vietnam and commercial teams will bring exciting new technologies to the Vietnamese farmer to help them thrive."
Cargill's first aqua feed facility in Vietnam was inaugurated in Bien Hoa in 1998. Upon the acquisition of EWOS in 2015, its manufacturing facilities in Vietnam were integrated into Cargill's plant network in the country.
