Dr. Johnny Wynne, Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at North Carolina State University, opened the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the university's new Feed Mill Educational Unit Wednesday. More than 300 people attended the grand opening, including members of the feed milling, swine and poultry industries, college and university officials, faculty, staff and students. He said the new feed mill represented the only such facility on the East Coast, which "completes our goal and gives us the opportunity to have a fully integrated, environmentally-sound system addressing all elements of commercial livestock production here on this facility."

The new N.C. State feed mill is part of the Lake Wheeler Field Laboratory, which includes facilities for swine, chicken, turkey, dairy and aquaculture research. "This is the piece that was missing," Wynne said, referring to the feed mill which had been in planning and development since 1999.

The feed mill, designed by NC State grad and engineer Tim Lease of feed mill design-build firm Wagester & Lease features full-scale production equipment from a large number of feed industry suppliers, including California Pellet Mill, Bliss Industries, Geelen Counterflow, Sidney Manufacturing, Sweet Manufacturing, Hayes & Stolz, and others. A large number of corporate sponsors participated in funding the project, including Degussa Corporation (now Evonik Degussa), Novus International, Perdue Farms, and Syngenta Animal Nutrition.
