13th Mar, 2006: It will no doubt surprise many people to learn the four full-time employees of Farmers Feed Mill next to the public library in Fergus Falls have no fewer than 250 different products for sale. Their product lines go well beyond the normal supplies of livestock feeds.
Feed, animal health products and pet foods are supplied to retail businesses and individuals. Some individual customers come to Farmers Feed Mill from a long distance.
“We have a woman who drives to the mill now and then from Milnor, N.D., west of Wahpeton,” said manager Jeff Springer. “She's purchased lots of poultry feed from us over the years.”
In addition to livestock and poultry feed are feed for dogs, cats, rabbits and birds.
“From Monday through Friday (7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) we service mostly retail customers,” said Springer. “It's on Saturdays (7 a.m. to noon) when many individual customers come in.”
Farmers Feed Mill is a local cooperative run by a board of directors.
Springer has worked at the Fergus Falls-based feed mill the past 20 years and has been manager for close to 19 of those years.
The mill, which buys from close to two dozens retail outlets in Minnesota alone, is located at 225 East Hampden.
