Construction of Changling County integrated pig farm underway

An integrated project for the farming and processing of pigs in Changling County, Jilin was said to be well underway.

The project which is comprised of a commercial pig base with a capacity of 2 million pigs, a slaughtering plant with capacity of 2 million, feed mills with annual output of 650,000 tonnes of feed, and a meat processing plant capable of processing 50,000 tonnes.

China National Cereals, Oils and Foodstuffs Corporation (COFCO), one of China's state-owned food processing holding companies, will invest 40 billion yuan in Changling County for the project.

Annual production value is estimated at 10 billion yuan, with profits of 800 million yuan, and taxes of 35 million yuan. The pig project will create thousands of jobs for locals in surrounding areas.

The planning and site selection for the project started in October 2011. Changling County, is located in the Horqin grassland, and was chosen as the site due to being located on ​​natural grasslands, with high agricultural food production, providing advantages for the development of animal husbandry industry in the ares..

Construction on the base commenced in September, 2013 and is expected to be operational in August of this year.

The feed mill with an annual capacity of 180,000 tons of feed mill has also started construction in Daxing Town.
