Bühler invests in upgrading and expanding it's Uzwil plant

Bühler has annouced plans to invest approximately CHF 70 million into it's factory in Uzwil over the next 5 years. The investment aimed at creating optimal conditions for the further expansion of manufacturing in the production flow.

The Uzwil site will continue to play an important role in the global production network for Bühler. To ensure long term profitability, Bühler will invest approximately CHF 40 million in new buildings and renovations of buildings as well as CHF 30 million in infrastructure and logistics.

With an aim of shortening lead times, the renovation of the historic layout is necessary to remain competitive in the future. The new building creates the necessary conditions for optimal implementation of "Total Synchro", the principle of flow production. This will mean transport routes and thus the processing times are shortened considerably, reducing the flow of goods unbundled and waste in the value chain further. This increases productivity and ensures that the site Uzwil will remain competitive in the long term.

Construction will begin in autumn 2011, with the company anticipating a construction period of about five years. During this entire time, production will remain fully functional, which upgrades/additions taking place in several phases.

Bühler is a global leader in process engineering, especially production technologies for making foods and engineering. Bühler is present in over 140 countries and employs about 7,500 people. In fiscal 2009 the company generated sales of CHF 1.7 billion
