A U.S. Department of Agriculture report says Nebraska feedlots with capacities of 1,000 or more head contained 2.51 million cattle on feed on Dec. 1.
The inventory was up 5 percent from last year and 9 percent from Dec. 1, 2004, the report said. It's the largest inventory since the series began in 1994.
November placements increased 5 percent -- to 460,000 head -- from year-ago figures and 12 percent above 2004.
Nebraska sales of fed cattle in November totaled 380,000 head, which was 25 percent more than last year and 23 percent more than November 2004.
Nationwide, cattle and calves in feedlots for slaughter totaled 12 million head on Dec. 1, which was 2 percent more than the same date in 2005 and 6 percent above Dec. 1, 2004.
