French feed manufacturing increases 4.2% in January 2013

The manufacturing compound feed rose 4.2% between January 2012 and 2013. With the expection of Turkey and waterfowl, all the main species rose.

France produced 1.8 million tonnes of compound animal feed in January 2013, reported Coop de France Nutrition Animale/SNIA.

Ruminant animals, with the exception of food goats showed a significant growth due mainly to dairy foods (+7.7%) and mash (12.0%). Pigs food rose overall by 1.6%, uniformly in all its different categories. In poultry, there are significant differences between the different sectors. Broilers rose by 6.6%, laying (11.5%), ducks (15.7%) and other categories such as turkeys (-3.6%) or fat waterfowl (-10.3%).

In the first seven months of the 2012-13 campaign, the overall compound feed production increased slightly (+0.5%), thanks to the rise in cattle food (4.9%). Pig feed fell 1.5%, but the food still up 4.1% piglets. Poultry feed (-0.2%) remained generally the same, while layer feed increased 4.4%. These growths largely offsetted the declines in feed for turkeys (-2.4%) and waterfowl (-4.8%). It is worth noting that there was a fall of 12.8% in the manufacturing of feed for goats, while rabbit feed continued with a decline of 1.1%.
