Animal feed costs could be rising in Germany as a consequence of the swill feeding ban which came into effect on November 1st, 2006.

Swill contains high amounts of proteins and energy according to German pig producers. They claim the feed prices will most certainly rise tremendously as the prices for grains and proteins are very high at the moment.
According to the Agricultural Chamber of the German state of North Rhine Westphalia, swill is an innocent and hygienic product.

CSF outbreak
Last year however, Classical Swine Fever (CSF) broke out in Germany as a consequence of swill feeding to pigs. One of the measures in order to keep the country free of CSF was the swill feeding ban.
