Carhill completes its first shrimp mill in Vietnam

Cargill Vietnam today announced that it had completed the acquisition of a shrimp feed mill located south of Ho Chi Minh City. The feed mill purchased from Higashimaru Vietnam Co. Ltd will provide Cargill with complete ownership of the feed mill ehich will be Cargill’s first venture into Vietnam’s shrimp feed industry.

Built in 2008, the feed mill is strategically placed near some of the biggest commercialised shrimp farms in Vietnam. The shrimp feed mill acquisition will contribute to Cargill’s existing feed production portfolio, which includes swine, poultry and fish feeds. Cargill anticipates to commence manufacturing Cargill shrimp feed for commercial sale inside 2 to 3 months after making additional investments into the feed mill.

Cargill’s General Manager for Aquaculture in Vietnam, Pedro A Curry, said “Shrimp farming is a growing industry, and this mill is a good complement to our existing feed business in Vietnam. It allows Cargill to quickly enter the shrimp feed manufacturing market in Vietnam with significant capacity and to begin to service shrimp producers.” He continued, “We look forward to expanding our business and to working with Vietnamese shrimp producers and helping them succeed.”

Hoàng Thông Thái, Cargill’s National Sales Manager for Shrimp, added “We are excited to be bringing our best technology to Vietnamese shrimp producers. Shrimp growers will be able to rely on Cargill to supply them with high-quality, top formulated and best-of-class manufactured nutritional solutions and technical services.”

Cargill is one of the leading animal nutrition firms operating in Vietnam. The firm started out with its first feed manufacturing plant in 1997 and now runs 6 feed mills throughout the country. Swearing out the swine, poultry, fish and shrimp feed markets through a web of about 1,200 resellers in addition to straight to end user sales, Cargill goes for the latest animal nutrition technology to its feed.
