Greg Page, Cargill's chief executive officer, restated Cargill’s commitment to Vietnam today as he visited Ha Nam Province where he stopped by Cargill’s newest feed production plant and inaugurated the fifty-fifth Cargill Cares School.

Constructed to service the rising customer requirement for high quality animal feeds, Cargill’s newest feed production plant in the Dong Van 2 Industrial Zone, Duy Tien district, will manufacture livestock feed using the latest manufacturing technology while meeting international standards for industrial and feed safety. The feed production plant will commence production before the 3rd quarter of 2012, bringing up the total of Cargill operated feed mills in Vietnam to 9. This investment in Ha Nam accompanies the firm's purchase of a shrimp feed production plant in Tien Giang Province in November, 2011.

Page stated “Cargill is proud to have served our customers in Vietnam for the past 17 years. Our recent investment in animal nutrition is a sign of our continued commitment to the success of our esteemed customers and to fostering the economic growth of Vietnam. We see a very bright future in Vietnam as we prosper together with local farmers and producers in the livestock and aqua industry, as well as our valued dealers and suppliers.”

Cargill also celebrated the opening up of the fifty-fifth Cargill Cares School - the Duc Ly Kindergarten in the Ly Nhan district. Cargill employees, suppliers and customers raised $ 70,000 USD to establish the kindergarten over the last 2 months. The school will profit one hundred fifty kids from low-income households in the district.

“Education is one of the most important contributions we can make to a growing country like Vietnam with a high population of young people. Our 55th school signifies the focused, long-term commitment of our Vietnamese employees to enriching local communities and improving lives every day,” Cargill's CEO said, adding “I am proud to say that by 2015, we aim to build 75 schools benefitting a total of 17,000 children.”

Emcompassed by Cargill Cares, an employee-led initiative, Cargill commenced its challenging school building initiative in Vietnam in 1997. Since then, Cargill has constructed fifty-five schools throughout Vietnam to the benefit of over 12,000 children, with aggregate financial backing adding up to $2.75 million USD.

The Vietnamese government lately accredited Cargill’s contributions to the country by granting Cargill Vietnam the Golden Dragon Award 2011. Additionally, Cargill Vietnam was presented with the Labor Medal by the President of Vietnam in 2009. This honor awards foreign direct investment enterprises that have made meaningful contributions to Vietnam's social and economicl development.
