Skretting has committed more than USD 300 million to expand production of extruded shrimp feed in Ecuador, funding new extruded-feed plants, infrastructure, a modern distribution centre and research facilities to simulate culture conditions and validate nutritional solutions.
The investment targets a market with annual demand above 2.4 million tonnes of shrimp feed; the national shrimp sector exported more than 1.4 million tonnes in 2025, generating roughly USD 8,000 million in foreign earnings. The feed segment grew about 15% in volume and near 20% in value compared with the prior year.
Planned plant features reported by the company include energy‑efficiency systems, process automation and waste‑minimisation measures. Skretting has also allocated roughly USD 8.4 million to high‑capacity power generation equipment to secure continuity of operations. The projects will include a distribution hub and research centres intended to support product validation under real farming conditions.
Other investors active in Ecuador’s aquafeed market include Cargill, with two feed plants totalling 560,000 tonnes capacity, and Vitapro/Alicorp, whose regional investments and the USD 80 million Nicovita plant reflect growing demand for advanced, digitalised feed production.
