Iowa State University’s Kent Feed Mill is using a leased, 26-foot high-tech trailer from KT Pacer to deliver ground corn and master-mix feed from the mill to the university’s animal science farms. The unit has been moving feed to the Dairy Farm and is slated to serve poultry, turkey and swine operations as well.
The trailer is hooked to an existing semi tractor owned by the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. It includes a tire-disinfecting spray system, driver-controlled remote operation of augers and gates, and an onboard telematics system that records feed movements for traceability. KT Pacer technicians can also connect remotely to diagnose and resolve functionality issues.
Corn grown on Iowa State-owned research farms is brought to the Feed Mill, processed into a master mix and then transported by the trailer, creating a closed-loop between crop production and animal feeding. College leaders say supplying campus teaching and research farms with mill-produced bulk feed reduces time and cost for the animal science department and the college.
Beyond operational savings, the trailer is intended as a training and research platform for students and staff and as a partnership opportunity for KT Pacer to refine trailer features based on university feedback.
