Bell & Evans proposes moving feed mill to 181 Market Drive, adds second hatchery

Bell & Evans presented plans to Bethel Township officials to relocate a planned feed mill from Legionaire Drive to 181 Market Drive, a 92‑acre farm north of Interstate 78 adjacent to the company’s Plant 2. The company says the new site would host both the feed mill and a second hatchery and would use roughly 40% of the property, with the feed mill footprint occupying about 22 acres (12 acres for buildings and 10 acres for trailers and stormwater basins) and the hatchery about 12 acres.

Project design notes submitted to the township describe a grain tower not to exceed 175 feet; enclosed chutes and mill structures; a European‑designed dust collection and noise‑minimization system; and both facilities built to contemporary construction standards and certified organic. Company officials said the storage silos at the Market Drive plan differ slightly from prior Legionaire Drive drawings and allow for future expansion.

Operational considerations cited include proximity to a substantial natural gas line, the ability to bore utilities under I‑78, and connections to Blue Mountain and Pine Grove roads. Bell & Evans estimates about 100 truck movements per day to serve the two operations and plans a traffic impact study. If approved, the company will halt permitting for the Legionaire Drive feed mill and seeks rezoning of the Market Drive parcel to agricultural while submitting land development and zoning requests together.
