Company Profile
Automatic Equipment Manufacturing is a fourth-generation, family-owned manufacturing company founded in 1925 by Rollie McQuistan on the family farm near Pender, Nebraska, where its mills are still built today. The business began with cattle and hog oilers, addressing fly and parasite control to improve animal welfare and farm cleanliness, and evolved to manufacturing roller mills and related agricultural processing equipment. Over the decades, Automatic expanded its product line to include tractor cabs, feed mixers, hydraulic rakes, field sprayers, and hitching equipment, before focusing on its core roller mill technology. In 1948 the company reorganized as a sole proprietorship under Myron Hesse, and by 1957 Automatic roller mills had become the standard for grinding corn for livestock across the United States, Europe, Australia, Pakistan, Indonesia, and South America, signaling its growing international footprint. Today, under the leadership of Mike Hesse, the next generation has renewed the original mission: to innovate roller mills that deliver the healthiest feed to livestock with maximum ease and convenience for cattle farmers and ranchers. Automatic has introduced large-capacity models such as the 10K and the 15K PTO-driven roller mills, designed to bring simplicity and efficiency to large operations in the United States and Europe. The company markets a range of roller mills, including high RPM cylinder configurations, with options such as auger or blower discharge, and emphasizes durability through hardened steel rollers. Automatic highlights key performance benefits over competing systems: greater throughput, reduced downtime, and lower energy consumption, with industry-reported advantages like up to 85% less energy than hammer mills and one-third less horsepower requirements. The business cultivates a reputation for robust design, easy maintenance, and consistent particle size across grain varieties, aiming to minimize feed waste and improve digestibility for beef, pork, dairy, and poultry operations. Automatic's facilities and production are anchored at its original site in Nebraska, with ongoing commitment to product development and customer support. Looking ahead, Automatic plans to continue expanding its roller mill family, preserving its legacy while delivering innovative solutions to meet the evolving needs of modern livestock producers worldwide.
