Seaboard Foods, one of the largest vertically integrated pork producers and processors in the United States, has started works on a new feed plant located west of Holyoke, Massachusetts. The new feed mill will manufacture approximately 200,000 MTs of hog feed for the Colorado-based live operations belonging to the company and will buy around 5 million bushels of locally grown grain every year to provide for the plant’s operations.

The new feed mill will boast the latest energy-saving and dust-collection technologies for feed mills. The project is anticipated to cost in total $13 million USD and need around 13.5 months to build, with an estimated completion date somewhere in the month of June, 2013. The new feed mill will supersede 2 present feed mills located in Yuma and Sedgwick counties.

Reported by the company, animal nutrition as 1 out of the 11 points of the Seaboard Foods Quality Circle, consequently the new factory will manufacture proprietary rations designed to maximise nutrition at all stages of animal growth. These specifically formulated swine rations optimise pork color, texture and flavor, while at the same time specially formulated vitamin packs to better wellness, producing nutrient-rich pork for consumers and increasing pork shelf life, ability to hold moisture, texture and color.

At this point in time, Seaboard locally operates two smaller feed mills that manufacture mash feeds. Seaboard Foods, with it's headquarters located in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, are an integrated food company and an exporter of US pork to over 30 different countries.
