Hormel granted building permission for new feed mill

It has been announced that Mountain Prairie LLC, a subsidiary of Hormel Foods has been successful in obtaining a building permit from Bent county for the construction of a feed mill for its sow business.

The firm has engaged the services of Mill Tech Services, of Sterling, Colorado, USA to construct the feed mill. The feed production plant will have the annual production capacity of 40,000 tons and will be equipped with a fully computerised dosing system and a state-of-the art air handling system.

All of the feed ingredients will be delivered to the mill by truck in bulk. The site will require around 20 trailer truck loads of grain every week for their business at the feed mill.

The feed mill is anticipated to employ 4-5 workers and the construction of the mill is expected to be finished by the 1st of August, 2012.

The firm Mountain Prairie, first opened its first of five hog farms in 1997 and carried on the development until December 1999.

In total there are 25,000 sows that generate over 570,000 weaned pigs every year. There are presently one hundred fifteen employees employed at the farming operation.
