MINFAL to set up 2,500 feed farms for hygienic meat

ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock (MINFAL) would establish 2,500 feed farms across the country to produce healthy animals for hygienic meat.

The ministry’s Agri-business Development and Diversification Board (ADDB) and Livestock and Dairy Development Board (LDDB) have jointly started Rs1,520 million Feed Lot Fatting Programme to ensure provision of sufficient meat.

“About 2,500 feed farms will be established across the country including AJK and Northern Areas (NAs) in the coming months,” ADDB Project Director Arshed H Hashmi said here on Monday.

He said that the ADDB had provided Rs5 million financial assistance to farmers to set up livestock farms in the country, adding that each farmer, raising 10 big animals and 20 small animals, had been given 15 per cent of the total expenditure spent on setting up of a farm. Besides, free medical facility, free farm designing and free super feed formula would also be practiced to make animals healthy.

Hashmi said that Rs6 million would be spent on feed assistance, adding that Rs1,400 per month would be provided to each farmer for three month period. He said that the government has started many other mega projects to boost livestock sector of the country with an aim to cater to the growing demands. As many as 4,171 expression of interest was received and technical financial feasibilities sent to all, official said.
