A visit to the Gulf states by Deputy Prime Minister of Portugal, Paulo Portas, concluded on Thursday.
The visit which included Qatar and United Arab Emirates has led to closer relations between Lisbon with the Gulf States, with the main areas of cooperation to be in the construction sector and the food industry.
As a result of meetings in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), a large group involved in the production of foodstuffs was convinced to build a Portuguese manufacturing plant for the production of animal feed.
Preparations for its construction could begin in 2014. The new feed plant would supply its products to the European market.
During the visit contracts were also signed for the export of Portuguese beef and poultry to the UAE.
The Deputy Prime Minister of Portugal led a delegation composed of 42 Portuguese entrepreneurs. In addition to the food sector and construction, they represented the IT industry, pharmaceutical and tourism.
