16th June 2006, Sydney: THE Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) is keen to develop and strengthen bilateral trade with Papua New Guinea in areas of agribusiness.

Austrade’s senior trade commissioner John Brand made these comments when he announced that a delegation from the Queensland stockfeed industry had identified potential trading partners in the country.

The group was in the country last week to promote trade and develop tie ups with local businesses.

The Queensland department of primary industries and fisheries, and Austrade spearheaded the stockfeed trade mission that left the country last Sunday.

The delegates represented companies across Queensland’s agribusiness sector and include suppliers of stockfeed, grain, pasture seeds, breeding services, nursery supplies and training services.

The mission visited Port Moresby, Lae and Kimbe where they discussed business prospects with local producers of beef, pork, flour, poultry, coffee and palm oil.

Mr Brand said the visit would further strengthen trade between PNG and Australia and would boost PNG’s export-driven recovery strategy.
