It's a dilemma many pet owners face these days.

What to feed your furry friends as a massive pet food re-call continues to grow.

Concerns over contaminated commercial pet foods have some turning to alternative options.

In Central Georgia, several retailers we surveyed said organic pet food sales have doubled or tripled since the massive recall.

Homemade pet foods are becoming more popular.

The Associated Press reports sales of pet food recipe books have shot up.

But are these foods safe for pets? We asked a Macon veterinarian.

DR. ANGELA SHURLING, RIVERSIDE ANIMAL HOSPITAL D.V.M

"If the individual sources are reliable, for the organic pet foods, than they should be a great source of food. But something could happen in the organic pet food as well as a non-organic one, because they all go through a manufacturing process. A homemade diet may be a good short term diet for a few weeks. It takes a very dedicated owner to stick to a homemade diet and feed everything the pet really needs."

The list of recalled pet foods expanded this week with Nestle Purina PetcareCompany, Del Monte Products, and Hill's Pet Nutrition adding products to the list.

Menu foods asked its customers to return nearly 100 types of its products last month.
